The Backstory on Gillespie's Ethics Plan

Ed Gillespie claims to support ethics reform. His record says otherwise.

“The Backstory on Gillespie’s Ethics Plan” is a correction to Ed Gillespie’s newest ad “Ethics,” to highlight Gillespie’s lucrative career as a corporate lobbyist in Washington, D.C.—and often at the expense of Virginians.

In an act of shameless hypocrisy, Gillespie—the “well-fed alligator” in the D.C. swamp—is now asking Virginians to trust him to clean up Richmond. While Gillespie bemoans that “special interests have too much sway over policy in Richmond right now,” he spent decades making millions representing Enron, lobbying for the student-loan industry as it was fighting for profits over students, and “turned his relationship with President Bush into an $18-million business.”

Ed Gillespie might talk the talk on government ethics — but he has never walked the walk.
